Several versions of this work have been made responding to different exhibition contexts.  In the original video, black and white Super 8 footage is combined with a handheld miniDV recording where five black and white photographs are held up one by one and scrutinised by the camera soliciting from the filmmaker a spoken improvised response which tries to remember and respond to each photograph.   At the end, an audio fragment from the beach scene in La Dolce Vita (1960) is heard as a voice calling is drowned out by the sound of the sea and the waves much as a memory is submerged and erased by the passing of time.  Although existing in different worlds of big cinema and small family photographs, the sound and the beach brings them together in a synchronous geographic and temporal zone around 1960.
